This morning Mama showed us some of the shells she made that she found on the beach last weekend! They look great!
Then, after sleeping in and having breakfast it was time for our hooky day! It was beautiful, sunny and warm outside. That was a good start!
Then we arrived to our secret destination...the President Lincoln Cottage in DC!
We went to check in for our guided tour and it was so beautiful inside the main building!
We had a little activity to start the tour.
Then it was time to make the short walk to the actual cottage and start the tour!
We learned some things about the building, the grounds and the previous owners of the cottage.
Then we got to go inside and learn a whole lot about the cottage and about the President, first lady and their staff during the time period that they lived there.
We got to explore some of the rooms and hear about things that happened in them.
We got to see the library and hear about President Lincoln's commute from the cottage to the white house and other things that were happening with the soldiers fighting in the Civil War at the time.
We got to see where the President wrote the emancipation and other notes on the times.
Then we made our way out to the grounds once the tour inside the house was complete.
It was such a great day and we had a great time learning about President Lincoln and things going on in our country at the time.
Then we headed to Half Smoke for lunch. It was a cool place even if a little bit hipstery...
We had a fun lunch and then it was time to head home from our fun day! We picked a good one for a day away from school!
We even passed some places that Daddy and Mama used to hang out at back in the old days before we arrived on the scene!
When we got home we did some playing and hanging out.
Then, it was such a nice evening that we decided to go for a nice, long family walk around the neighborhood! It was a great day and a great evening!
