Today we got up bright and early and waited on our Uber to take us to Hurricane Hole to meet up with our boat captain, Rusty, for our fishing charter! We were really excited for a day on the water!
And it was shaping up to be a beautiful day! The sky was clear the water was clear and our Captain was really nice! It was time to get out on the water and do some fishing!
But first we checked out some of the sea life right there in the marina and helped Captain Rusty throw our ropes onto the dock.
We saw huge tarpon and jelly fish and birds and this huge manatee drinking some of the fresh hose water dripping down under the dock. How cool!!
Then we were off to the open waters!
The first stop was at the traps where Captain Rusty gets his live bait!
And of course we had to feed Henry some of our extras!
Then we grabbed another trap. We had lots of bait to get us started!
They were super wiggly but kind of cute!
Then it was time to head to our fishing spot over an old wrecked and sunken boat!
We passed by the Army Special Services training facility. That was pretty cool too!
And these crazy sea yurts. No thank you!
We were already having a fun day. "I'M ON A BOAT!"
And while Mama and the boys were out fishing, Daddy and I were on our own adventure picking up our golf cart and cruising the island! Woo Hoo!
And our first stop was to get the best BLT for lunch! It was awesome!
And as soon as Captain Russ had us baited up we started pulling them in! It was so much fun!
Finn and I probably caught over 10 fish in less than 45 minutes! We were so excited!
Nothing beats fishing and catching!! We did have to throw some back like our little puffer fish friend and some of the smaller guys...
But they just kept coming and we couldn't be more thrilled!
Until...Mama got something really big on her line. It was giving her lots of trouble. Captain Russ was trying to help her get it in but Mama was doing a pretty good job. Then something even BIGGER came and ate what Mama had on her line. Captain Russ thinks it was a big shark. He pulled Mama's line and there was no getting it back in. She couldn't even reel it in at all, the "shark" just kept pulling the line out to sea until it got Mama's catch off the line. And then it was over. That jerk scared away all the fish! And we didn't catch anything after that!
But we sure did have an amazing time and we were so happy with what we caught and we could take home and we had so much fun!
It didn't mean that we couldn't keep trying but they just weren't biting!
When we got back to the marina we got to feed the birds our leftover bait. Boy were they happy and it was funny to watch them catch the fish and eat them!
I was really proud of this yellow tail that I caught!
We were proud of all of the fish we got to keep! It was so much fun to take them with us!
Then Captain Russ filleted the fish for us and we got to throw the scraps to the tarpon and nurse sharks waiting below!
They were HUGE and terrifying! I would hate to fall in that pit!
Can't wait to cook this fish up later this week!
When we got home it was toasty hot out so we met Daddy and Jax at the pool. It was so nice to take a dip and just chill!
Later we decided to go for a cruise in the golf cart and go grab some dinner!
It was so much fun cruising around town!
We got to check out a chicken tree on the way to dinner...only in Key West!
Then we hit the Old Town Mexican Cafe, right up Daddy's alley!
It was a yummy dinner and another amazing day and night in Key West! What a great trip we're having!
